Blood tests

If you already have recent blood test results showing iron deficiency, we can work with those. We accept NHS and private laboratory results, provided the appropriate tests have been ordered and we have sufficient clinical detail.

If you do not have recent results, or if additional tests are needed, we can arrange a blood test at our clinic. We require as a minimum: serum ferritin, haemoglobin, transferrin saturation, and CRP.

Tests we review
  • Serum ferritin, your iron stores
  • Haemoglobin, to confirm presence and severity of anaemia
  • Transferrin saturation (TSAT), how well iron is being transported
  • CRP, to identify any inflammation that may affect interpretation

The treatment

Your iron infusion

You will be seated comfortably in our treatment room at Medirex Pharmacy, 28-29 Wilcox Close, Nine Elms, London SW8 2UD. Beverly will explain everything before she begins and will be with you throughout.

A small cannula is placed into a vein in your arm. The Ferinject infusion is then administered over approximately 15 to 30 minutes depending on your dose. Most patients describe the process as comfortable and straightforward.

You will then remain with us for a 30-minute observation period during which your blood pressure, pulse, and wellbeing are monitored. This is standard practice after every IV iron infusion.

During your visit
  • Ferinject (ferric carboxymaltose), up to 1,000mg in a single session
  • Continuous monitoring throughout the infusion
  • 30-minute post-infusion observation
  • Written aftercare instructions provided before you leave

Follow-up and blood tests

We will arrange a follow-up appointment at 6 to 8 weeks after your infusion to check your progress. This includes a repeat blood test to confirm your iron levels have been restored to a healthy range.

For your convenience, blood tests can be couriered to and from your home, no need to travel to a clinic. Your follow-up appointment can be in person or online, whichever you prefer

Most patients require only one infusion. If your follow-up results suggest further treatment would be beneficial, Dr Bhadresha will discuss this with you clearly and without any pressure.

At your follow-up
  • Repeat ferritin and haemoglobin blood test
  • Review of symptoms and how you are feeling
  • Digital results and clinical report provided
  • Recommendation on whether further treatment is needed
