What to expect

What happens in your consultation?

Your consultation lasts 30 minutes with Dr Bhadresha. Here is exactly what she covers.

01

Your symptoms and history

We take a thorough history, how long you have been feeling unwell, what symptoms you are experiencing, your menstrual history, any previous diagnoses, and your current medications. We listen properly. This is not a 10-minute GP appointment.

02

Review of your blood test results

We review your blood test results in detail, whether these are from your NHS GP, a private laboratory, or arranged through our clinic. We looks at serum ferritin, haemoglobin, transferrin saturation, and CRP, and explains clearly what your results mean in plain English.

03

We can use your existing blood tests

If you have had recent blood tests from your NHS GP or another private clinic, bring them along, digital or printed. We accept results from any UK registered laboratory, provided the right tests have been ordered. There is no need to repeat tests unnecessarily.

Not sure if your results are complete or recent enough? Bring what you have. We will review them with you and advise clearly at the consultation. You will never be asked to pay for tests you do not need.

04

Looking beyond iron if needed

Fatigue has many causes. If we feel it is clinically appropriate, she may recommend additional investigations to ensure nothing else is being missed, hormonal panels, thyroid function, menopause screening, B12 and folate, or other relevant tests. There is no obligation to proceed with any additional testing and no pressure whatsoever.

05

Your personalised care plan

At the end of your consultation, we will give you a clear recommendation, whether IV iron is appropriate for you, what the treatment would involve, and what you can expect to feel. If treatment is not appropriate, she will tell you honestly and advise on the right next steps.

Blood tests

Your existing results are welcome.

You do not need to pay for new blood tests if you already have recent results. We accept NHS and private results from any registered UK laboratory, as long as the right tests have been ordered.

If you do not have recent results, or if additional tests are needed, we can arrange these at our clinic or send a phlebotomist to your home.

Tests we need to see

Your iron stores, the most important marker.

Transferrin saturation (TSAT)

How well iron is being transported

CRP

To check for inflammation that may affect interpretation

A thorough consultation

We look at the whole picture.

Fatigue, brain fog, and low mood are common symptoms, but they are not always caused by iron deficiency alone. Dr Bhadresha is a fully qualified GP and she will not simply assume iron is the only answer.

Where clinically appropriate, she may recommend additional investigations to ensure nothing else is contributing to how you feel. This might include checking your thyroid, hormonal levels, vitamin B12 and folate, or markers relevant to the perimenopause or menopause.

These are suggestions, never obligations. You are always in control of what investigations you proceed with and what treatment you choose. Our job is to give you clear, honest clinical information so you can make the right decision for you.
